Relocating to Texas during summer heat

Beating the Heat of Summertime Relocation in Texas

Texas summers sure know how to bring the heat.  And as temperatures rise, so do stress levels.  This can be especially true if you are trying to plan your relocation when temperatures are soaring into triple digit territory.

But, have no fear, we have some great advice on how to beat the heat of summertime relocation in Texas!

Planning and Preparing your Move to Texas

As with most things, planning and preparation can go a long way in helping you to keep calm and cool during your summertime move in the Lone Star State.  So, the very first step in planning your move should be to devise a workable, organized plan.  We suggest committing that plan to writing, and to try to stick to that plan as much as possible.

There will definitely be a lot to do and many things that will need your attention.  So, the best way to prioritize the many things that you need to do is by making a running list.  This also minimizes the risk of having anything important fall through the cracks once you are in the throes of the actual move itself.  And as new items pop up, be sure to add them to the list.

Choosing a Texas Moving Company

One of the first items on your list should be to contact, interview, and choose a moving company, because you need to get the physical move scheduled as soon as possible.  This is even more critical during the summer months, which is considered peak season for the moving industry.  As such, moving dates and times tend to fill up very quickly, so you don’t want to leave that decision for the last minute.

Here’s a helpful list of questions you should ask moving companies when conducting your interviews:  Interviewing Your Mover.

When it comes to moving companies, be sure to choose a reputable, professional company. You should ask friends or family members for recommendations, and read online reviews before you even make a call. So, do your homework ahead of time.  Here’s some helpful information to keep in mind when choosing your moving company.

Then, once you have chosen your moving company, you might want to refer to this useful Pre-move Checklist.  It has everything you need to know to help you prepare for moving day.

Engage the Whole Family in the Move

Just because there is a lot to be done doesn’t mean that you have to do it all yourself.  Preparing for a move presents a great opportunity for engaging the whole family in the process.  This can also help with any member of the family who might be feeling reluctant or sad about the move.  Helping with move preparations can be the perfect distraction, and even get them excited about where they are going.

If you are packing your home yourself, it can be a fun project to let your kids help pack up some of the items in their rooms.  You can also let them help you assemble boxes, tape them up, and write the room names and contents on the outside.  And if all else fails, you can always let the kids pop some of the bubble wrap.  That can help ease the tension and turn a real chore into a fun family activity.

Moving Day

Then, once moving day finally arrives, be sure that you have everything that you will need immediate access to within easy reach.  If you are moving with children, this could include favorite toys, snacks, juice, and of course plenty of water.  When it’s hot outside, one of the most important things is for you and your family to stay nourished and hydrated.  You might even want to pack an ice chest for those items that need to stay cold and fresh.

If you are moving with pets, make sure that you also have their food and water bowls where you can easily get to them.  And, definitely make sure that they have access to plenty of shade when they are outside, and that they are not at risk of getting out of the yard.  There are always a lot of moving pieces (literally) on moving day, so make sure your pets are safe and secure at all times, especially since they will be in unfamiliar surroundings.

Minimizing Stress on Moving Day

Remember, moving is considered one of the most stressful events in a person’s life.  And we know that the stress can be compounded by the summer heat.  So, the more prepared you can be on the front end, the less worry you are likely to feel on moving day.
